| Eastern optical was started by Art T. Haines in March of 1959. Art left American Optical with a few of his employees at AO, and with the support of the Optometric community, started the operations at Eastern. Later on in 1980, Doug R. Haines and Alan T. Moore took over the operations. Later on, in 1996, Eastern became a member of the Essilor Group of Laboratories.
After a few moves from its original location, Eastern relocated to its current location on Ilsley avenue, where it produces hundreds of Rx per day. Today, Eastern has over forty employees with 9 having more than 25 years of experience each, to better service all Eyecare Professional in the Atlantic Provinces.
Eastern Optical is a full service laboratory offering the latest technology in lenses, coatings and services. We proudly feature the entire line of Essilor Varilux lenses and Crizal lenses and coatings. Nikon lenses and coatings, Sola lenses and coatings, Transitions Lenses Rodenstock products, Signet Armolite products, Vision Ease Lenses, American Optical products, Younger Optical products and many others.
With its DataEyes, Eastern Optical has pioneered in remote tracing, edging and ordering lens technology. The second generation DataEyes II is now in place with thousands of lenses ordered each month. DataEyes II enhances order accuracy and processing as well as service to patients that opt to keep their frame.
With www.easternoptical.ca, Eastern Optical is making another step in the electronic order entry and transmission service. Through the Eastern Optical website, Eastern’s customers can now order lenses through the Internet. No need for sophisticated equipment, just a computer and a internet connection.
